About Us

It all started when…

Keep Our Wells Clean, Protecting Our Indian River and Concerned Citizens of Prime Hook started working together doing educational forums, then eventually meeting with the Delaware Delegation. All our individual grassroots groups were dealing with the same issues of industrial contamination and the environmental and public health effects of inadequate disposal of poultry waste, including stormwater and ground / surface water contamination, although in different neighborhoods. We quickly realized the problems were big and the solutions would not come from one fix. We would have to work at county level, state and federal level to solve these problems. Realizing that many other like-minded people and non-profits were also partners in these issues, we brought together Sussex Health & Environmental Network.

Who is SHEN?

Sussex Health & Environmental Network (SHEN) is a collective voice for positive solutions and inclusiveness in representation in environmental and public health issues. Finding solutions to big problems has never been easy and has always come from the bottom up. Keep Our Wells Clean, Protecting Our Indian River and Concerned Citizens of Prime Hook have demonstrated that by working together and building power, we can get the needle moving in the right direction. We are students, retirees, farmers, health care professionals, teachers, firefighters, engineers, scientists and everything in between. We are fathers, mothers, daughters, sons and grandchildren. We are family and community and we all rely on clean water. We are a community with amazing leaders and amazing partners in working towards solutions.
